You are in Tuscany, you have to ask yourself about seeing the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Is it worth it?

Italy and That Tower of Pisa- Tips and the Photos We Couldn't Resist!

Seeing that tower of Pisa is practically a rite of passage for a tourist in Italy!

I know, I’m usually sharing about immersion travel, not touristy, crowded places travel. I even write about How to be a Traveler and Not a Tourist. Why would I recommend such a touristy spot?

Well, there are enough serious places to visit like the museums and all the cathedrals, Pisa is FUN! If you have some extra time, you want to have some laughs, and you would like to mark one more monument off your list, go to Pisa!

Here are 5 tips you need to know about visiting Pisa.

1- The tower is going to be smaller than you expected, know this, and you won’t be disappointed.

2- If you want to beat the crowds, come an hour or so before sunset. This way, you get the benefit of all those funny photos in the light of day, in addition to seeing Pisa’s beauty lit up by night.

3- Eat a piece of pizza by the Leaning Tower of Pisa- just to say you did it.

4- Take a look in the duomo and the baptistry, they are stunning. You also don’t want to miss the monumental cemetery with its splendid frescoes.

5- MOST importantly, bring your sense of humor! Pisa can be loads of fun if you just go with it! The amount of fun will be completely up to you.

Pisa is for play!

Remember, everyone out there is looking like a complete goofball. Go with it! Be creative and have a great time!

Sometimes, the beaten track is that way for a reason.
Pisa is fun and worth the visit. Less than a half hour drive from Lucca, it makes a great pit-stop.

You should know that this post is a highlight in visiting Pisa’s Field of Miracles. Pisa is a wonderful city with more to offer than just a leaning tower. Italy Guides offers beautiful virtual tours of what you can see in this magnificent and historically rich city.

Of course you MUST see the Leaning Tower of Pisa! It’s touristy and cheesy and wonderful! LOVE all of the fantastic photos here. Off to pin, pin, pin!

We went last summer. I would add several tips:
    - Buy your tickets online in advance. Then you just pick them up and they are for a specific time.
    - They do not allow any bags to go in the Tower and if you bring one, they send you all the way back to the ticket booth, which is a hike, and you miss some of your time in the Tower.
    - The steps are uneven. Be careful. My husband sprained his ankle here. The people running the Tower entrance are teenagers with little English and of no help in an emergency.
    - Bring your water bottle. There is a cool fresh water spigot in the square.
    - You can walk to and from the train but it is a hike.

Great tips, Brette! Thank you for posting them. It can certainly get a little chaotic in there!

Fun post! I will show this to my kids to give them ideas for when we all go as a family (next May?). Sometimes being a goofy tourist is so fun.
And yes, this place is definitely worth a visit, mostly for the other buildings in the complex, which are stunning (I think)!
